NATIONAL PARK OF ORDESA AND MONTE PERDIDO

At just four kilometers from Escalona, this natural area extends into four valleys under the watchful eye of Monte Perdido (3355 m). Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park was declared in 1918 and then in 1997 was declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
Escalona is an ideal base from which to draw your trips in any of the four valleys of the National Park is the gateway to the valleys of Escuaín and Añisclo, and it is situated midway between the easternmost, which is Pineta and more Western is Ordesa.
The landscape is of great contrasts: extreme dryness of the highlands, where water from rain and snowmelt seeps into cracks and sinks, green valleys covered with forests and meadows, waterfalls and water running through canyons and gullies, a unique botanical Europe and endangered species as the osprey.
With a special charm and worth a visit are the nearby towns surrounding the National Park: tile roofs, stone walls and chimneys topped with “espantabrujas”, which tell stories of what life was like decades ago in the mountains. We are happy to provide information for the visit!
NATURAL PARK OF POSETS-MALADETA
It houses the largest concentration of peaks over 3000m, Posets, Bachimala, Maladeta or Aneto are examples. The high mountain landscape, with more than a hundred small lakes (mountain lakes) and Pyrenean glaciers. You can also visit the towns along the route Gistaín Valley, the edges of Viadós or the Ethnological Museum of San Juan de Plan.
NATURAL PARK OF SIERRA Y CAÑONES DE GUARA
The visit to Guara is a perfect complement if you decide to visit the southern part of the Sobrarbe. In this area Mediterranean forests alternating with subalpine grasslands. The passage of water shapes the landscape and landforms: sinkholes, caves, chasms and canyons spectacular very suitable for the practice of canyoning.
EUROPEAN GEOPARK OF SOBRARBE
How did our mountains?, What colossal forces have shaped our landscape? Through the center of Geology Sobrarbe, the collection of fossils from the sea and interpretive panels distributed by areas of geological interest of the region will be revealed to us the history of the Pyrenees: Sobrarbe to 40 million years ago was a tropical sea, and its bottom was raised because of a brutal clash between European and Iberian plate constituting the Pyrenees in the so-called Alpine Orogeny.
Sobrarbe is a field laboratory for academics and experts of geology.
